Rene Lynch

I find that I enjoy Rene Lynch’s work on many levels. First, I see how significant the age of puberty is for humans developmentally and not just physically, rather in all aspects of life, physically, emotionally, experientially, and even spiritually. Her description of how youth show “…a certain honesty…” at this time in their life that is unique and I agree because I have seen it as well. In my experiences with young people I see truly how important these years are in a persons life for them to develop, grow and learn about life and their world. Rene’s work connects with me at this level in a powerful way, maybe partly because of my profession as being a teacher at the middle school level.

Secondly, I enjoy her ability to almost capture a fairy tale feel in her work. There is an intriguing feeling of fantasy in a unique way within Rene’s work that I enjoy.

A sense of freedom and loss of responsibility comes to mind when I view her work, which is fascinating to me, especially with all of my responsibilities in my life it is a unique feeling indeed to get when viewing something.

Lastly, I enjoy her ability to successfully combined landscape with portraiture, in an expressive way.

Featured Work

  • Dusk (Secret Life of the Forest) 2007, oil on canvas 72″ x 60″ I enjoy this painting so much because the landscape reminds me of a blazing sunset or sunrise or even a forest-fire. I only think of the last one because of the posture of the two girls and their expression. Very interesting to me, and not a little stressful when thinking that they are both in the woods with a fire close by…I like how it makes me think, and draws me into the picture.

Holly Sears

Holly Sears’ ability to paint nature in a powerful yet surreal way consistently inspires me. I find that I reminded of Salvidor Dali’s work ’specifically his Swans to Elephants’ when I view her ‘Big Water’ work – very impressive to me. The use of rich colors and incredible value changes in her color use are very impressive to me. There is a calm about her work, and yet the surreal jumps out at the viewer, sparking curiosity and interest. I enjoy her work very much!

Featured Works

Vanessa McNight

Ultra realism, black and white oil painting, attempting to create a physiological effect similar to what a movie or TV show does to their viewers yet Vanessa attempts a similar effect with her work on views as well. It fascinates me at how realistic her work is, and how true to the ‘feel’ of Hollywood, and movies her work conveys. The ‘black and white’ look is cool, but also maybe reminds me of the ‘older years ‘ of Hollywood when it REALLY was good, and not sooo crazy and ULTRA-showy like it is now.

Featured Work

  • Untitled *about to kiss…* (my description), oil on canvas, 30″ x 40″ I REALLY like this painting because it is so life like, and has such a larger than life feel to it (exactly what Vanessa wants her viewers to feel when looking at her work). I find that it does has an identical Hollywood feel to me, mainly because she captures the feelings so accurately of the intensity, expression, and body language in the people in her works.

Gabe Brown

Most of her inspiration comes from nature. She repeats in multiple works the imagery of Birds (specifically crows, or ravens), trees, and mushrooms.

Featured Works

  • Carved in Wood, oil on linen over wood panel, 2007
I enjoy how the wood grain was aloud to show threw and not be painted over in parts leading to a more interesting work, and additionally offering a powerful reminder of nature.
  • Daily Parade, oil on linen over wood panel, 2007
The background has a ‘wash’ or watercolor effect on it, allowing the view to once again see threw the paint and see the natural wood grain of the wood panel underneath. To me its one of the most powerful ways of representing nature in a work of Art…actually show nature in your work.
